The Eames La Chaise was designed for The Museum of Modern Art’s 1948 “International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design”, and is inspired by Gaston Lachaise’s Floating Figure sculpture. It was never sold during Charles and Ray’s lifetime as it was to expensive to produce. It was only put into production in 1990’s by Vitra. Initially released in 1991 sympathetic to the original design before changing to use polyurethane in 2001.
