PROVENANCE The Don Bernardo O. Dagala family, Navotas, Rizal. The Dagalaswere a political family from Navotas town in Rizal. Don BernardoO. Dagala became President of the Municipality of Malabon from1903–05, succeeding Canuto Celestino who was a signatory toGeneral Emilio Aguinaldo’s Declaration of Independence on12 June 1898 in Kawit, Cavite.Dagala was credited for the final separation of Navotas fromMalabon during the American regime by virtue of Proclamation142 in 1906. According to family lore, Dagala was much respectedby fellow Navoteños and even his Chief of Police Vicente Santoswould courteously open office and residential entrances and cardoors for him. Don Bernardo O Dagala and his wife had daughtersbut no sons, so from his direct line, the surname Dagala died out,but not his descendants.
